For my 14th birthday I asked for a fishing rod. I liked the idea of sitting beside a river, relaxing, chilling out, having a drink and… oh yeah catching a fish! My friend Jamie and I would attach them to our bikes and cycle to a small pond hidden by trees in a field somewhere in Essex! The pond may have been small but there were loads of fish in it and we were guaranteed to catch something! Not all my fishing experiences were very good though …
How would you describe yourself in one word? This classic question is often used when playing a ‘get to know someone better game’. It’s one of those questions designed to get you thinking ‘what makes me, me’! …
I think it is fair to say that modern art divides opinion. Some people think it is genius and creative whilst others think it is useless and nonsensical! The reality is all art is subjective, and I suppose that’s the point, if it gets people talking about it just maybe it has achieved its aim.
Inspirational quotes have become a bit of a thing. You can buy all kinds of stuff containing a thought provoking, hilarious, heart-warming, or super wise saying to make you feel better or motivate you to do something. They appear on nicely painted wooden plaques or slates, mugs, posters, t-shirts, bags, you name it, and you can most likely buy it …
I remember when sat navs first started to become readily available and thought it was the greatest invention ever! Especially on those occasions when my sense of direction goes completely out the window and I am completely lost! The fact our mobile phones can now know our exact location and easily guide us to where we need to be is simply remarkable to me and still something I am so pleased about.
My mother-in-law recently told me of the awful moment when she couldn’t find the Christmas decorations and had begun to think that her husband had accidentally taken them to the dump after a big clear out. She even got upset about it which is unheard of! All those years of collecting things, bits and pieces, items made by children and grandchildren, the stuff that can’t be bought or replaced just gone like that! Thankfully they were found re-boxed but unlabelled in a corner of the cellar, much to everyone’s relief.
I am a big fan of the Marvel Superhero films (or if you want to be geeky – the Marvel Cinematic Universe) that have been released since 2008, starting with one of my favourites ‘Iron Man’. The film ‘The Avengers – End Game’ was so epic I nearly burst with joy, such was its brilliance. It had everything, oh wow! Sorry I got carried away then just thinking about it again! The basic premise of these films tends to be the same, there is a baddie who either wants to destroy the world or control it, and there is a goodie (the superhero) who comes and saves the day! I love it! OK, I know I may have slightly oversimplified it, but you get it.
We have all had those annoying times where we are told that a parcel will be delivered or the person coming to fix a particular thing that has gone wrong will be arriving anytime between 8am – 8pm!! You know how it is, you can’t risk going out or perhaps even going to the toilet because you know if you do that will be the exact moment that it/they will turn up!! So, we wait, hoping and longing that it will be sooner rather than later. The disappointment when they don’t turn up at all is more than a little frustrating.
In times of difficulty and distress, we are prone to ask, “When will this end?” And we’re not alone. Most everyone asks the same question …
